Could someone take a moment and please explain to me this new phenomenon that’s come with the Internet? When have the opinions of people I’ve never met mattered? Why would I add someone on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that I’ve never met (inclusion of celebrities)? And after adding them, why the hell does their opinion matter?! Who cares if they think I’m fat or ugly?! My mother thinks in beautiful. My boyfriend thinks I’m smart. My friends think I’m caring. And I know that I’m a great person. So why does a strangers opinion matter? Instead of looking for praise and love online, look at the people already next to you. Their the ones that matter, the ones who will stand by you.
Stop having 100+ friends. You can’t be that close to all of those people. Studies show that people are meaner online because they never have to see the person their trashing. So make sure your friends are ones that will see you, who will bear the consequences of their actions. And if they still treat you like shit, delete them.
Here’s a secret: Your 300 virtual followers don’t matter. Your 5-10 close friends and family do. And if you think you don’t have any, that’s because you’ve spent way too much time online.
